Spent time today with Abdullah Kurdi, pictured here, who's sons Aylan and Ghalib, and his wife all drowned after their raft foundered during their crossing from Turkey to Greece. The photograph of Aylan's body, lying facedown on a Turkish beach, went viral. Mr. Kurdi hopes that his tragedy will effect the refugee policy of the #eu and #Europe at large, as well as the #usa as the Syrian conflict barrels toward its sixth year with no end in sight. Photographed on assignment for the @nytimes. #Syria #aylankurdi #refugee #erbil #turkey #unhcr
